Profile

A jack of all trades is how I’d describe myself. Reading and writing have been my longest-standing hobbies. My parents say that I started reading at two – I’d take that with a grain of salt. I grew up with books, lots of them.

I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember, and my love for reading has evolved over the years; each season it has meant something new: satisfying curiosity, escaping to a different world, and seeking to know and understand how the world works.

Writing came naturally; the more you read, you write. Writing was a way to let out my frustrations about my life and the world, of course this has evolved and is evolving, now I’ve expanded to include my musings of my surroundings, stories from other people (very new and excited about this), a form of activism and a show of poetry.

I currently live and work in Europe, Germany to be precise, before then I lived in Ireland. I work as an Electronics Engineer, which just means I am a nerd who loves maths, physics and creating problems so that I can solve them. I grew up in Kenya; Nandi, Eldoret then Nyeri.

A self-proclaimed Pan-African and feminist, maybe Pan-African Feminist?

A highly opinionated woman.

I love art; I paint, dance, hairdress, photograph and write as my chosen art forms.

At my prime, I spend my time outdoors, engaging in various active pursuits, including badminton, hiking, swimming, and recently, bouldering. Otherwise, I’m curled up in bed, reading or watching a show.

My name is Jelimo Maiyo, and if I were rich with a strong passport, I’d spend all my time travelling the world.
